United States Parental Rights Threatened
64
Are you a parent living in the United States? Do you enjoy the freedoms that you have with the upbringing of your children? Freedoms like being able to teach your children a religion of your choice or maybe even to opt out of teaching a religion at all? How about deciding how your child is going to be educated: public school, private school, home school? There are many things that we, as parents in the United States, do that we do not even think about as being a freedom. We get to choose the type of discipline we implement to train our children, like spankings or no spankings, time outs and groundings. Parents make decisions on children's health care, like to vaccinate or not to vaccinate. How would you like it if the government made these types of decisions for you? In some countries these decisions "are" made for parents, and in one country they even decide whether or not a young child will make their society better and if they decide that they will not, the child dies.
It is time for parents to be informed of what our government is wanting to implement. For many years, there has been an international convention trying to be ratified in the United States. This convention is called, "The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child". This treaty was signed by the Clinton administration in 1995, but was never ratified. If ratified, it would be considered law and would override our constitution where families and children are concerned.
Countries Who Have Ratified The Rights of the Child
There are 194 countries who have ratified the The Rights of the Child. Only Somalia and the United States of America have not ratified this treaty.
- Netherlands - Parents have to go out of their way to please their children, like working extra hard to give them the things they want. Teachers and schools do not expect much from their students. Children's freedoms include - drinking, smoking, drugs and sex at any age. Sex education starts at age 4 and the age of consent is 12. Over 90% of 15 year old teens are sexually active.
- Belgium - Parents who do not get their child the mandatory vaccines are arrested. The courts can take a child from the home for almost any reason they see fit.Only the Dutch language is allowed to be spoken to children. To help make a better society, pediatricians are allowed to end the life of a child up to the age of 1 year, if the doctor determines that the baby is somehow disabled, deficient, or will suffer in life. This can happen even if the parents object. The government is considering assisted suicide for teens and younger children who are terminally ill.
- Italy - Parents are required to support their adult children until the child finds a job that he/she likes. Courts can change the name of a child if they do not accept the one the parents choose.
- Sweden -No corporal punishment is allowed. This includes any type of spanking, being sent to their room or time outs. To train a child the parent has to use negotiation. Sex education is mandatory - parents are not allowed to opt their child out of this class. There is free child care for children under 12 years of age to all parents who work.

If this treaty passes in the United States, there will be 18 foreign people meeting in Geneva to make official decisions for parents of children in America. These people will allow and/or disallow things such as:
- Parents could only be an adviser when it comes to religion. The child will have the right to choose any type of religion he/she wants and parents will have no say in it.
- If the government disagrees with a decision the parents make, they can override that decision.
- If a child disagrees with his or her parents, they will have the right to be heard in the courts.
- Christian schools will not be able to teach that Christianity is the only true religion and will have to teach other types of religion as well.
- Parents will have to allow their child to be in sex education classes in school.
- Children will not need parental consent to obtain birth control, sexual reproductive education, or abortions.
- Using spankings as a form of discipline will not be allowed.
- A minor who commits a murder will not have to spend life in prison for his/her offense.

What Can We Do?
The best way to perserve parental rights in the United Sates, is by making an admendment to the constitution. Making an admendment may be a long hard task, but with our freedoms at jeopardy, we must make a change. The new admendment will have three sections.
Section #1 - The liberty of parents to direct the upbringing and education of their children is a fundamental right.
Section #2 - Neither the United States nor any state shall infringe upon this right without demonstrating that its governmental interest as applied to the person is of the highest order and not otherwise served.
Section #3 - No treaty may be adopted nor shall any source of international law be employed to supersede, modify, interpret, or apply the rights guaranteed by this article.
To help get this admendment into the constitution, start by signing a petition at www.parentalrights.org. While there, take a look at this site and educate yourself on this treaty, the proposed admendment, and the other ways you can help save our parental freedoms.

This is a well written, expertly researched article that informs the reader about an often overlooked yet critical social topic! Well done!
Specialk,
It's truly sad what is happening in the world. Unless we step in, I expect the USA to follow. Thanks for an enlightening article. Now it's up to us.
Specialk, interesting hub you wrote. The research you have done is impressive. AAs someone who works in the swchool system, I have to say, I believe we have lost control of the kids in our nation. I believe the control has been taken away to a great extent,in and out of school.
It's an interesting hub but the information you've presented here aren't really true, and that is in case of (1) Belgium where Dutch, French and German are official languages. The country has a complex linguistic regime, including language requirements for various elective and appointive positions. Linguistic rights are respected more than anywhere else (European Union's language and saving identity policy). No, doctors can't ''legally kill'' children (even if parents object, as you've put it) on any ground. It's absurd and heavy accusation against Belgium. The law in Belgium prohibits discrimination based on race, sex, religion, disability, language, or social status. The Government is strongly committed to children's rights and welfare. The law provides for the protection of persons with disabilities from discrimination and offers financial assistance.
(2) In the case of Italy, parents aren't required to support their adult children. It's just their mentality. I know, I am married to an Italian.
Very well done then they take the right away and wonder why the kids act like little excuse my french assholes and grow up to do bad things. Cracks me up. The way I feel is and I have told my children you may hate me that is fine I am not suppose to be your friend we can be friends later but you will repsect me and you will thank me for what I am doing now when you get older. If the government thinks they can do a better job raising my children I will gladly sit back and watch. Look how kids are now what a joke. Good hub.
I've read the articles following the link you left but the references are all coming from reporters and their stories. We all know, they can all report in a manner that best suits them in order to make a boom story. No references to the actual law provisions. I know a lot of parents in Italy who don't support their adult children and they never had problems or discussions in terms of this topic. As far as Belgium is concerned, it must follow the laws of the European Union which is strongly against such restrictions. Because of such situations in the past, the EU enforced laws on human rights and especially on language rights to make sure that every citizen of the EU has the right to choose their own language as the medium of communication and to preserve the national identity. I really don't understand how this could be true when Belgium has three official languages (and not only spoken languages).
And Michelle Obama says feeding our children cannot be left up to the parents.
Very informative - I had no idea about some of the things going on in other countries regarding parental rights. I know it does seem that in the U.S. some of our parental rights are already dwindling away. We as parents have to be ever vigilant about about how the government is trying to take these rights away from us.
I came back to vote up this hub and rate it useful. I did some digging because I couldn't believe that the facts presented in this hub were true. I must admit I was wrong and I'm sorry I misjudged the efforts of the author. I couldn't find anything on Belgium, but I found that the new Slovak language law restricted the use of languages other than Slovak in public communication and introduced fines amounting up to 5,000 euros. Opposition to the new law has been mounting across Europe voicing their concerns over a law which will inflict punishment for "incorrect language use". It's tragic :-( I guess, if it happened there, it could happen anywhere else in Europe including Belgium.
No need to thank. Your hub this week was definitely the best I've read. It definitely stimulated an avalanche of emotions, questions, doubts and answers! The link to Slovak law is:

Read the other posts there (especially about the politician in Denmark)! Shocking indeed!
Scary--as I've said many times, George Orwell was right--he just got the year wrong.
(I refer to his book, "1984." It's been made into a movie...a frightening glimpse into what may happen if we remain apathetic as a society.)
Bravo !!!!! I'm so thankful you wrote this Hub. We are slowly but surely losing our freedoms and rights in this country, like a disease that takes over the organs in the body. We need to be more vigilant in guarding all our rights and freedoms and not be so passive and apathetic. Thanks for the great information. This is one of the best Hubs I've come across so far. I look forward to reading more of your work.

specialk, we homeschooled our children and they are in H.S. now, their choice. We hear all this talk about how they need to keep kids in school longer, more hours and more days because this nation is falling behind. My daughters could give them the answer without all the research and study. They are wasting way too much time they have already. They often spend whole classes working on one paper. They do much of this in groups. In these groups, most often, they get the work done in ten minutes and then spend the rest of the time goofing around and chit-chatting, or they goof off and chit-chat and finish the work at the last minute. For some, the schools, out of financial necessity, spend time preparing kids to pass state mandated testing. Even when the "training" for the test takes them away from the every day activities and assingments of their regular classes, the passing of those state tests are considered more important. Teachers also have no real control over their classrooms. Discipline is hardly existent and teachers are frustrated. Kids do talk with one another while teachers are talking. They get up and walk around the room and pass notes, sit here and sit there. The teachers can only call for assistance or send so many kids out of the room to the office without the higher-ups thinking they are bad teachers for not handling the problem themselves. So to look better, they let the kids, if they are not "too disruptive" keep being disruptive. Sorry to rant like this. Ephesians 6:12 states that we are fighting spiritual wickedness in high places. We will all have to be strong in the Lord, in faith and in prayer, to get through and endure the persecution that is approaching. As we have seen through the presidency's of late, the constitution doesn't mean much when they want to do what they want to do. Peace
